What to Know Before Moving to Hudson Heights

Known for its epic views and refreshingly affordable homes, Hudson Heights certainly lives up to its name! Let’s get to know the Upper Manhattan neighborhood better.

Neighborhood Amenities

Aside from its stunning vistas and reasonably priced housing, Hudson Heights is surrounded by amazing green spaces. At the top of the list, we have Fort Tryon Park. Located in the northern part of the neighborhood, this 67-acre park is home to The Cloisters (a renowned medieval art collection museum housing a collection from the Metropolitan Museum of Art), two playgrounds, Manhattan’s biggest dog run, and much more. You’ll also find Bennett Park, which is the location of the highest point in Manhattan. There isn’t much in the way of nightlife, but there is a nice selection of restaurants, cafes, and bars (more on that below).

Types Of Buildings

Along with many green spaces in the area, Hudson Heights is home to a varied collection of structures and homes. Primarily made up of buildings built prior to World War II, you’ll find an assortment of architecture that is typically one of two types: Art Deco and Tudor Revival. Most homes are found in apartment buildings (and a lot of them are co-ops) constructed in the early to the mid-20th century. Along with original prewar buildings, there have also been several luxury condo buildings erected over the course of the last three decades. Those looking for more spacious (and cost-effective) housing will love the choices in Hudson Heights!

Walkscore Info

Despite its hilly terrain, Hudson Heights (along with the rest of the Washington Heights area and Manhattan) offers exceptional walkability. This allows residents to not only get most of their errands done by foot but to also take advantage of the stunning views and convenient access to the area’s epic greenspaces. Offering a number of handy bus lines and subway lines, Hudson Heights is home to world-class public transportation, making it super easy to get around for work, play, and everything in between. The neighborhood also provides convenient bikeability for those that like to peddle around and get their exercise on wheels.
